Jessie M. 'Pete' (Cole) Carey

Jessie Carey, age 78 of Wingdale, NY, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Mrs. Carey was born December 15, 1937 in North Salem, New York to Ernest and Pearl (Tompkins) Adams. She graduated from schools in North Salem, New York.

Mrs. Carey married Thomas J. Carey on December 23, 2000 in Pleasant Valley, New York.

Mrs. Carey worked as a custodian at George Fisher Middle School in Patterson, New York for 15 years before retiring in 2007. She had been a waitress through the years working at the Birch Hill Diner in Patterson then Barbarosa's Diner in Brewster, NY and finally Gil and Son's Diner in Patterson.

Mrs. Carey had lived in Wingdale for the past 4 months. She had lived in Sidney, NY for 10 years and Patterson for many years before that. Jessie enjoyed her trips to casinos in Monticello New York as well as Mohegan Sun. She loved to garden and was an avid Yankees fan. She was a life member of the Paterson fire department Ladies Auxiliary. It was her family that brought her the greatest joy, whether preparing meals to share or celebrating a special occasion, Jessie was happiest when her family surrounded her.

Besides her husband Thomas, of 15 years, Jessie is survived by five children, George Banks (Donna) of Dover Plains NY, William F. Cole (Cheryl) of Fort Pierce, Fl, Pamela J. Romeo of Dover Plains, NY, Harold R. Cole (Laura) of Stormville NY, and Kelly Lee (Chester) of Wingdale NY; four stepchildren, Joseph and Vanessa Carey, Wayne and Christie Carey, Jennifer Carey and Wendy and Sam MacDougall; a sister, Chaffie McMullen of Lake Carmel, NY; 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Also several nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery Patterson, NY. Friends may call at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. www.dwyerfuneralhome.com
