Ella Grace Tunmer was born on February 28th, 1945 to George Cornell and Grace Fieser. She was technically born in Bickford’s cafe in the Bronx, as Grace was told by her doctor that the baby wasn’t ready to be born that day. Grace went in for a slice of pie and a cup of coffee and left with a baby girl.
Ella is predeceased by her four siblings; Frank, Walter, John and Ann. She met her husband, Edward Tunmer, while still a teenager at his family’s home in Brewster, NY. She was impressed by his dress shirt and tie, and they were married on November 1st, 1965. They had two children; Scott (1966) and Heather (1968). Ella lived a simple life, never rich in the world’s goods, but rich in the things that truly matter. Her life was marked by service to others, humility and faithfulness. Not likely any in her circle of friends and acquaintances were a stranger to her homemade bread and jellies. She threw her heart into holidays, her favorite being Easter, and truly made her house a home and a haven where all were graciously welcomed.
Above all else, Ella had a love for Jesus Christ and a heart that desired to please him with her life. She was a woman of prayer... hours and hours of prayer. She was a loving mother and the best loving grandmother any kids could ever have. She loved cardinals and the color blue; spring bird calls and lilacs. Her home-going has left an emptiness in our hearts, yet we rejoice that she has been set free from physical suffering and is in the presence of her Savior as well as surrounded by so many of her friends and family.
Heaven gained a faithful servant on December 29th. Although we know we will see her again one day, we grieve for the loss that is ours, here on this earth. Ella Tunmer, you were so very loved and you will be so very missed. Thanks for the precious memories.
