Obituary for Bernard S. Kessman

Bernard Kessman passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 11, 2018.
He was the son of the late Milton and Beatrice (Avins) Kessman. He was born in Patterson NY on July 24, 1940. He was a partner in Kessman Brothers Farm in Patterson NY for his entire life. He was a resident of Sherman CT for 46 years.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, best friend and partner for 58 years, Diana E. (Hall) Kessman.
He will be sadly missed and is father to sons, Todd and his wife Cathlee (Turner) Kessman, Michael and his wife Susan (Bresnan) Kessman, Scott and Denise (Ashley) Kessman and a daughter Sandi Kessman.
He was a devoted grandfather to Gregory Kessman and his wife Kristina Belardo; Kathryn Kessman, her husband Steve Martyniak and their daughter Hannah; Cassandra Kessman and her fiancé Jason McAlinden; Dillion and Lindsay Kessman and Justin Eastman.
He leaves behind his beloved sister in law, Debbie Onorato and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his brothers Albert and Martin Kessman.
He was dedicated to the success of the family farm his entire life. It supported ten families and provided employment opportunities to many. Several of his competitors, suppliers and business associates became lifelong friends.
Bernie enjoyed his off season on the east coast of Florida deep sea fishing with his brothers and sons. Most important to Bernie was his family. A perfect day included time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY on May 14 from 4:00-8:00pm. A service will be held at Dwyer Funeral Home on May 15 at 10:30. Burial to follow at Quaker Hill Cemetery in Pawling.
Bernie was an active supporter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Autism Awareness. In lieu of flowers donations are appreciated. Please visit lls.org or Autismspeaks.org.
