Print
Gail Hazel (Grosch) Schaefer, born November 4, 1939 in New York City, died peacefully of an acute illness on October 31, 2018.

Gail spent her childhood in Queens and graduated from Richmond High school in 1956. While there she met the love of her life, Jack to whom she was married on October 20, 1961. Together they share a mutual love of animals and a life of numerous adventures, including the birth of their son, John. Since 1968, Gail and Jack have made Alpine Village, Patterson, NY their home.

Gail received a bachelor’s degree in English from Mercy College, taught at Mathew Paterson Elementary School and worked for many years at IBM in Somers, NY. Retirement included traveling from Kauai to the Matterhorn and witnessing the birth of her adored granddaughter, Joanna.

Besides her husband Jack of 57 years, Gail is survived by her son John, granddaughter Joanna, daughter-in-law Deanna, brother-in-law Ken, her cat Maya, grand dog Lia and grand cats Molly, Nelson, Bud and Lou. Gail will be greatly missed by all until we meet again and share a bottle of chilled white wine.

Friends and family may call on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street in Patterson, NY. A private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, Gail’s family has asked that you please direct donations to the Putnam Humane Society, PO Box 297, Carmel, NY 10512 or any animal shelter you desire.
