Obituary for William D. "Billy" Akin III

Akin, William D. ‘Billy’ III, age 83, a lifetime resident of Pawling, NY, died Monday, June 4, 2012 in Carmel, NY.

Mr. Akin was born in Carmel, NY on September 15, 1928 to William D. Jr. and Florence (Ferris) Akin.
He was a 1945 graduate of Pawling High School.

Mr. Akin married Frances M. Sprague on September 25, 1960 in Amenia, NY. Mrs. Akin died February 10, 1997.

Mr. Akin was a dairy farmer with Akin Ridge Dairy Farm in Pawling, NY since he was a young boy. Through the years, he was also a driver for the Patterson and Pawling Highway Departments, as well as, Budd Park Trucking. In later years he worked with Akindale Farms, also in Pawling.

Mr. Akin took enjoyment looking upon old tractors, square dancing and motorcycles. He took pride in being a hard worker at whatever job or task presented itself. He was also a former member of the Pawling Fire Department and the Christ Church on Quaker Hill in Pawling.

Mr. Akin is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Brenda Akin of Pawling, his brother David Akin of Pawling, and his uncle, DeWitt Ferris of Danbury, CT.

A graveside service will be held Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:00am at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Route 311, Patterson, NY. Friends may call at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY, on Thursday from 5-9pm.
