Donald B. "Mr. Mac"  McLagan
Donald Blythe McLagan, 95, of Waycross died Wednesday morning (Feb. 20, 2013) at his residence after an extended illness. He was born, July 4, 1917 to Donald and Emily Podolak McLagan and grew up in the Bronx, NY. Mr. McLagan married Mary Alice Truran on May 14, 1942 and then entered the service where he served as a Captain in WWII in the Army Air Corps. He is a graduate of Colgate University at Hamilton, NY and obtained his master’s and worked on his doctorate at New York University. Mr. McLagan taught many classes, retiring in 1974 as a high school English teacher in Brewster, NY.

They moved to Waycross in 1975. They were active in different clubs and organizations that include, Okefenokee Heritage Center, Co-President with Mary Alice of the Pinecone Garden Club, Co-Leaders of the Federated Garden Club, member of the Heritage Center Guild, Chairman of the Camelia Show and Federated Garden Club’s Christmas Holiday Home decoration contest, Waycross Lions Club now the Okefenokee Lions Club. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, former member of Trinity Keenager Choir, former teacher of the Charles Wesley Sunday School Class, former member of Trinity Senior Choir, former member of the “House of Hope” Food Distribution. Mr. and Mrs. McLagan were honored with the Good Neighbor Award from the Waycross Journal-Herald.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Truran McLagan in 2003; one grandson, Peter John O'Steen; one great-granddaughter, Sutton Joy Hazzard; one great grandson, Riley Mason White.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Hazzard and her husband Richard of Patterson, NY, Carol McLagan, Meriliss White and her husband George of Blackshear; six grandchildren, George White, III, Norman White and his wife Lesley, Richard Hazzard, Jr. and his wife Carol, Dr. Timothy Hazzard and his wife Kelly, Matthew Hazzard, Geoffrey Hazzard and his wife Heather; ten great-grandchildren, Justen White, Harley White, Greer and Sloane Hazzard, Alexa, Mikayla, Kiera and Justin Hazzard, Dillan and Joshua Hazzard.
