Obituary for Amy L. Darby (Bews)

Darby, Amy L., age 99, died Saturday, April 5, 2014. She was the wife of the late William F. Darby.

Mrs. Darby was born on September 4, 1914 in Liverpool, England to Harry M. and Edith T. (Clayson) Bews. She had graduated from schools in England.

Mrs. Darby married William F. Darby on July 3, 1937 in Liverpool. Together they came to the United States in 1963. Mr. Darby died November 29, 1988.

Mrs. Darby had made her home with her son Robert and his wife Karen in New Fairfield, CT. They had lived in Patterson, NY for many years prior.

Mrs. Darby enjoyed reading, gardening, bingo and singing with friends and family. She was a member of the Holmes United Methodist Church, the New Fairfield Senior Citizens and the Red Hat Ladies. She had volunteered in her early years with the Peekskill Hospital. The love of her family was so very important to Mrs. Darby. With dozens of grandchildren, she would be found doting on them all and loving every minute of it. She was a special lady for certain and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Darby is survived by her three children, Brenda Alves of Poughkeepsie, NY, Robert Darby and his wife Karen of New Fairfield, CT, and Christine Martelli and her husband Pat of Fitchburg, WI; 12 grandchildren,21 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her son Gordon Darby in 1946 and a granddaughter and great grandson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014, 6:30PM at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7PM. Interment will be held on Tuesday April 8th at 11:00am at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY www.dwyerfuneralhome.com
